What is CEC?
The CEC (Canadian Experience Class) is one of the immigration pathways that international students and workers use to migrate to Canada. One of the significant support CEC gives its applicants is the possibility of being upgraded from a temporary to a permanent resident, provided the international worker or student has contributed to the Canadian society during their stay.
Who can be eligible for the
Canadian Experience Class?
The only set of people that will be considered eligible for the Canadian experience Class is those that have relevant work experience from Canada before obtaining a Canada PR.
What are the Canadian Experience Class
(CEC) requirements?
Before you can join the CEC, you need to meet the following criteria:
You must have attained a work experience of one year working in Canada which would only be valid if it was completed within three years before the application
It would help if you met the standard language qualification for reading, writing, speaking and listening.
The work experience gained must be legally obtained within Canada.
How Canadian work experience is calculated?
Including unpaid internship or volunteer work in the work experience section doesn’t account for a professional Canadian work experience. Also, for part-time, you must have worked 1560 hours to qualify for the work experience.
What skilled work experience means for National Occupational Classification (NOC) is
- Professional job (Skill type A)
- Skilled trades and technical jobs (skill type B)
- managerial positions (skill level 0)
Note that you have work experience across these jobs and be qualified.
Education Requirements for CEC immigration.
You don’t need to provide educational requirements before qualifying for CEC. However, to boost your CRS score, it is great to have an academic qualification, either a degree from Canada or a foreign country (the foreign country report will come with the EAC report).
Language Requirement for CEC
To qualify for CEC, the language requirement must have included:
A minimum of Canadian Language benchmark 7 either from a NOC O job or NOC B job
For a NOC B job, a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark 5 is required
Also, you need to take the Canadian-approved language test to check for your speaking, writing, listening and reading proficiency.
You would also be expected to make a detailed description of the test result in your Express Entry profile.
Note that the language test will become invalid after two years. It will be denied if it is invalid on the day, you start your permanent residency application.
FAQ.
There is no location limitation to your CEC application. You can do it from within or outside Canada, provided you don’t have work experience older than three years before applying.
An internship will be counted as a work experience if the applicant gets paid for it and it wasn’t an educational assessment job. This means if the internship is done when you are a full-time student, or you don’t get paid, it is not a valid job experience.
You don’t need proof of funds to qualify for CEC, except if you are going through the federal skilled worker or skilled trades program.
